Youth
groups, schools, Sunday school classes or organizations can come and
have great fellowship and fun as they package the food. We have had
from ages five to eighty-nine packaging at HIS place and all have
enjoyed the experience. We have also had blind and parplegics package
so anyone can participate. This is a way to make missions hands on
experience rather than a distant concept we just talk about or give
money to.
In packaging we have people who hold the
bags under the funnel while others add the soy, freeze dried vegetables,
chicken fat with 21 vitamins and minerals, and the rice. Someone else
will then take the filled bag to another table and there the package is
weighed and rice is either added or subtracted depending on the weight.
A package must weigh at least 390 grams but less than 400. Next it is
sealed with most of the air removed. Finally the packages are counted
and then put into boxes, thirty-six packages per box, and then the box
is closed and sealed.
We
can package from 1,000 to over 3,000 meals per hour based on the age and
experience of those packaging. This is done at HIS Place but can be done
at churches, schools or organizations on a regular or special occasion.
Contact HIS Place to schedule a time for you or your group to participate.
This is also a wonderful experience for
the whole family to participate in together. One teenage girl stated that
"it was like putting Jesus in every bag". This is truly a fun
filled and rewarding experience for those who package. It can also be
a wonderful outreach. tool as many people who would not visit a church
would be willing to package food for the hungry and present wonderful
opportunities to see the love of Christ in action.
